From my personal collection, and a bit of an era guess, I present to you with a stunning Art Nouveau dress, dated between 1890 to 1910s! The bust and butterfly sleeves are decorated with delicate butterscotch and black baroque lace that appears to be intact! The skirt is an inky black silk, still very soft with a tiered lace/mesh long peplum with hundreds of jet beads lining the hem of mesh! That might be my favorite part and gives the dress almost a late Victorian “mourning” feel. It also gives this beauty some weight so when worn, it would really move with the owner. The back even has a mini cape? That drops down from the shoulders and is also lined with the same jet beading. From every angle, this dress is just a dream, with a balance of soft and floaty while also mysterious and gothic. Silk/lace, Laying Flat Bust 16 (32) Waist 14 (28) Shoulder to Shoulder 13 Shoulder to Waist 17 Hips 19 (38) Waist to Hem 34. Condition: Antique Excellent Minus This dress is over 100 years old which blows my mind counting she’s in such great condition! I’m pretty sure the previous owner wore her which is why she was so well protected, the previous owner also added hooks and snaps for an easier opening and closing of the dress with minimal stress to the material. The bust/torso has three layers including light, orginal boning at the base underneath the silk and baroque lace. There is some light damage, which is be expected, the right inner shoulder layer of silk has torn from the inner bust, there a underlayer panel of lace that needsto be hemmed together. With some reinforcing, that could be repaired. The back waist seam needs to be reattached in about a two inch area, there is another two inch area of seam that needs to be reinforced in the skirt. The dress doesn’t smell bad, it has a light antique smell but no body oder. There appears to be some dirt? On the front mesh (pictured) which started to come off when I tested it, so I’d suggest giving her a delicate wash. There is a small pin hole in the cape and maybe 6 or 7 more throughout the mesh; very difficult to find. Beads are all in tact that I could see! Silk is soft, not rotted, and the mesh peplum appears to be almost completely in tact. For her age, this dress is beaming! Many of my items are vintage and pre-owned so I do my best to go over each item thoroughly to ensure the description is as accurate as possible. Vintage items are not perfect and even though I take extremely good care of all my clothing, they are still more fragile than new clothing which can be torn when you’re putting them on if done so strenuously.
