This has been in the attic of my mother and father’s house for years. That was 20 years ago and it’s been kicking around mine. I originally listed the frame and then the mourning wool piece separately. I didn’t know they belonged together. Then I tried the frame on the box and voila it fits snug together. You can see by the second to last picture but it actually was made for this box. I’m so glad I didn’t sell them separately. Now you have the frame and the box as it was made for (as far as I know). The paper inside the walls is a bit yellowed and probably could be replaced if you are so inclined. This is another of those labor of love pieces. It will need glass. I guess that’s why it was separated. The glass probably cracked at one point and my father took the frame off to measure and replace, and never did. The box outer shell and the depth FYI is 3 1/2. It has lots of lovely wool flowers and grapes down the center. The colors are still very bright too. Makes you wonder what they dyed them with. Medium blue, pinky red, ivory white, avocado green, peachy tan, and a little turquoise blue accents. The bow on the grapes is a little aged with a tiny stain and separation. This will be a labor of love, and keeping something old around another century. Nice older antique solid wooden frame with a nice golden insert frame. There is a slash/nick decoration to the front of the frame. There is a corner, shown in picture 3, that is shiny like some shellac is on there. Overall it’s in good shape. Interior measurements are 20″ x 14 1/2″, the exterior measurements 26″ x 21″ x 1 1/4. Check out the pictures as they are part of the description.
