Antique Victorian Mourning Gold Filled Enamel Seed Pearl Locket. The Locket was taken to my jeweler and he put in 8 new seed pearls because they were missing when I got the Locket. Not sure if it is Onyx. He believes it to be enamel. Well over 100 years old. Chipped at closing prong because of much use. Acid tested and says it is 14k GF. Has minor scratches but can’t see many without a loupe. Roman numeral marking on the inside of each side, a VI. There are 2 pieces of cloth with a retaining ring. One side has the clear plastic cover and the other doesn’t. 1.33mm tall without bail. Weight – 13.19 grams. I believe this locket is very nice condition for it’s age and wear! Mourning Lockets have been around for some time and in England during the Victorian Era they were quite popular. This is due to the fact that Queen Victoria was in deep mourning after the death of her husband. She wore a Locket which contained a small amount of hair from her deceased husband Prince Albert. This set a new fashion trend in England. Lockets come in a variety of creations: Gold with Diamonds and other precious stones, Gold Filled, Gold Plated, Sterling Silver and silver tone. Weather you are a collector or someone who loves Antique jewelry lockets are a wonderful and personal way to display your personal style. Highly collectible you can expect to pay a few hundred dollars for Gold Filled or Sterling Silver Lockets. Real gold and diamonds will command thousands. All items are Vintage or Antique. Because of the wear and age these items will almost always have chips, fading of metal , and wear in different areas. If we miss something it will be accidental and we hope you will see it in the pics. Age and wear adds a lot of character to many pieces.
