Antique Silver Paste Stones Hair Mourning Sentimental Ring Georgian Victorian 10
Description: This is a gorgeous, antique, mourning or sentimental ring. It’s composed of silver and it has an oval face set with an oval, hair locket surrounded by foiled paste stones set in silver. The stones have a beautiful sparkle. There is also a gold colored metal around the locket base. The locket contains brown, woven hair enclosed under a bubble glass, locket crystal. The bubble glass is so dramatically domed, so it appears that it’s not entirely transparent. When it’s angled a certain way, I think it looks like a natural stone. It’s a nice large size and nice and solid feeling. Please note that this listing is for the ring described herein only. The other rings in the last photo are currently listed with the exception of the heart-shaped, rose-cut diamond ring which has yet to be listed. Background: Paste is cut glass that has been faceted to look like real gemstones, diamonds in this case (but to be clear, these are NOT diamonds). The stones are backed with foil and set with a closed back. The foil makes them really sparkle, but it’s important to avoid getting foiled paste jewelry wet because moisture can damage the foil and cause the stones to appear discolored. Materials: Silver that has been tested, glass, foil, untested, gold-tone metal locket encasement. Can be resized within reason by your jeweler. The face of the ring measures approximately 1 inch wide by 3/4 inch tall. Weight: Approximately 9.6 grams. Date estimate: Potentially the first half of the 19th century, Georgian Era or possibly Early Victorian Era. Please consider that unless a piece is hallmarked with the date, the date estimate is just that, an estimate. Origin: Most likely European. Condition: Good, antique condition with wear in keeping with age. White blobs on the glass in the photos are light reflections. The stones are all present. Upon close inspection, one stone appears slightly discolored, but it looks more pronounced in the highly magnified photos than to the naked eye. Please use the photos as a guide as they form part of the description and the condition of a piece is subjective. Any boxes or props pictured are for display only unless otherwise noted and are not included with this listing.
