WELCOME TO CYPRESS CREEK VINTAGE JEWELRY. Mourning rings were the most common form of early period mourning jewelry. They were given to family members and close friends and were usually paid for through the estate of the deceased. These rings ranged from plain gold bands to rings set with diamonds, pearls, and miniature portraits. They were often inscribed with the name, date of death, and age of the deceased. This piece features a row of seed pearls with black enamel. There is braided hairwork surrounding the band. The shank is fashioned from 15k yellow gold. The inside of the shank is inscribed. It reads: In memory of JH January 15, 1887. The ring still bears the date stamp of 1889 made in Chester, England. Width -6.69 mm. Chord length from left to right of enamel area – 15.55 mm. Size: 5.75-6 – This ring can technically be resized. However, the hair work goes around the band, as does the inscription inside. We will not be offering resizing for this piece. If you would like to resize it, we ask that you consult your local jeweler. Shank Width under the band: 5.20 mm. Weight: 2.3 grams. Condition – Excellent condition considering the age of this piece.
